An excellent exhibition souvenir book which focuses on the illustrious William George Webb (1821-1890) but also gives a generous overview of the development of toy theatre during the Victorian period. The foreword is by George Speaight followed by two detailed chapters by Laurie Webb and David Powell who place Stevenson's essay on "A Penny Plain and Twopence Coloured" in context and describe the efforts of the British Puppet & Model Theatre Guild to promote the work of Webb in 1926 with their special exhibition. The book contains 87 colour pictures of Webb's toy theatre characters and scenes together with a number of original preliminary drawings. There is also an Appendix to the Webb Archive and a bibliography. A must buy for toy theatre enthusiasts and collectors! 38 pages in total.
